What cooking is about
In my view cooking is more than the necessity to prepare food. It is a moment of social interaction, of sensitivity. Above all, cooking is about composing tastes and smells, and experiencing them. As John Cage already stated in the 1950s, Cooking is composing.
The Sonic Kitchen takes place 50 years later, in a culture of mediation, technology and globalization. Also the meaning of preparing, cooking and eating has been redefined. Being to busy, our meal is too often a quick necessity of tv-diners and sealed meals heated in the micro wave.
The Sonic Kitchen brings back the experience of food. You see our cooks prepare a fresh meal in front of your eyes. By translating the sound and images we make the experience even more profound.
Through this synergetic approach, The Sonic Kitchen presents the meal as a sensory means for social interaction.
The Sonic Kitchen is inspired by artists working from the approach of total art, sensory unification, technology and food. These include Wassily Kandinsky (Der Gelbe Klang), Futurist composer Luigi Russolo (Intona Rumori), John Cage (Mushroom Music) and Daniel Spoerri(Eat Art).
